Daniel, who of course played Harry Potter himself, shared in a statement to Variety“With the loss of Michael Gambon, the world became considerably less fun. “Michael Gambon was one of the most brilliant and down-to-earth actors I have ever had the privilege of working with, but despite his immense talent, what I will remember most about him is how much fun he had doing his job.”
The actor continued: “It was silly, irreverent and hilarious. She loved his work, but never seemed to define herself by it. He was an incredible teller of stories and jokes and his habit of blurring the lines between fact and fiction when speaking to journalists meant that he was also one of the most entertaining people one could wish to do a press conference with.”
“The sixth film was where I spent the most time working with Michael and he made the hours we spent together in front of a green screen more memorable and joyful than they had any right to be,” Daniel recalled. “I’m very sad to hear that he passed away, but I’m very grateful that I was one of the lucky people who got to work with him.”
Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy, wrote in X, “The magnificent Michael Gambon has died. I learned what Michael’s performance could be like in The singing detective – complex, vulnerable and absolutely human.”
He continued: “The biggest thrill of being in the Potter movies was that he knew my name and shared his fearless, dirty sense of fun with me.”
Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, took to Instagram to honor Michael. The actress wrote that she “was always in awe of Michael’s presence and performance.”
“His deep, mischievous voice between scenes vibrated in the Great Hall,” he added. “He was Dumbledore through and through, a constant, warm and guiding figure. Rest in peace Miguel. Sending love to your family ❤️”
Other Harry Potter Star James Phelps (Fred Weasley) also shared touching memories of the actor. “He was always very funny and very welcoming in sharing any knowledge he had,” he wrote.
James recalled that during an “intense” scene in the clock tower, Michael helped him and his twin brother, Oliver Phelps, with something out of the ordinary. Harry Pottera reading of Peter and the wolf with the Manchester Hallé orchestra.
James recalled: “So we spent what should have been his free time going over my gig for the weekend. It is a memory that I have always held as one of the highlights of my days at HP.”
Bonnie recently celebrated an exciting milestone by welcoming her first child with her husband.
