Career

Dan was the 145th pick in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft. In a 12-10 Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings on October 12, 2008, he made the first start of his NFL career.

He also started the final game of the 2008 season, but was unable to lead his team to victory. He was signed by the Houston Texans on March 1, 2009.

Additionally, Rex Grossman beat him out for the backup quarterback position during the preseason and ended up as the Texans’ number three quarterback.

Grossman was traded to the Washington Redskins the following season and Dan was promoted to backup quarterback.

On July 30, 2011, Dan signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts. On December 18, 2011, he and the Colts defeated the Titans in their first game of the season (after starting 0-13).

He was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 15, 2012. Orlovsky was released by the Buccaneers on April 4 of the following year, but he re-signed them on April 4.

He joined the Detroit Lions as a backup quarterback to Matthew Stafford on April 2, 2014. Additionally, Dan signed with the Los Angeles Rams on July 20, 2017.

He was released by the team on September 2, 2017. He announced his retirement on October 11, 2017. As of now, he is a football analyst at ESPN.
