More than 20 years after she was fired Delighted, Shannen Doherty reveals what led her to leave the hit supernatural series.
During his recent Let’s be clear On the podcast episode, Doherty spoke to his former co-star Holly Marie Comb about what really caused his sudden departure from Delighted. “Other people assigned me the narrative that ‘I quit,’” Doherty explained. “I didn’t assign it to myself. “I think I’m at that point in my life where I don’t want to keep lying about it, and I don’t want to keep lying about something that meant a lot to me, something that I loved doing.”
Shannen Doherty also noted that she loved going to Delighted. She said she loved the people he worked with on the production. However, she admitted that her fellow show star, Alyssa Milano, ended up being the key reason she was fired. Doherty stated that Milano threatened the production with a lawsuit if they did not remove her from the show.
“I remember they looked at me at that moment,” Doherty said of the meeting with his representatives. They then discuss the “quit smoking” narrative. “And he said, ‘No, no, no, your career won’t survive another layoff. [after the Beverly Hills, 90210 exit]so we’re just going to say you chose to leave.’”

Meanwhile, Delighted Co-star Holly Marie Combs confirmed that Alyssa Milano threatened a lawsuit if Shannen Doherty wasn’t fired.
“[Producer Jonathan Levin said]’They told us it’s her or me. Alyssa has threatened to sue us for a hostile work environment,’” Combs explained. “Because [Milano] “She went to the therapist, the mediator, or the corporate mediator, whatever their title, she built a case where she documented every time she felt uncomfortable on set.”
Although Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs refused to speak to the mediator, everything was settled. Combs stated that Milano’s threats of legal action would not work these days. “There were no fights on set, not even harsh words exchanged. It was all behind the scenes. It was nothing that any of our co-stars or anyone [on set] noticed.”
Shannen Doherty later said that she never remembered being mean to Milano on set. “I remember an episode I directed where she did something over Christmas break,” she recalled. “And they asked me to work out some things with her. And he couldn’t have been more kind and understanding.”
Doherty’s Delighted The character was killed off after three seasons on the show. She was then replaced by Rose McGowan, who remained on the series until the eighth and final season.
