Charlie Sheen shares heartbreaking moment that forced him to get sober

Charlie Sheen has been sober for six years and has some thoughts to share about his experience.

In a new interview with People, the 58-year-old actor opened up about his journey and struggle with addiction. “Next month I will celebrate six years of sobriety. Now I have a very consistent lifestyle. “It’s about single dad stuff and raising my 14-year-old twin sons, Max and Bob,” he revealed.

After many years of heavy drinking, substance abuse, and ranting about “tiger blood,” the actor is now ready to put those days behind him and focus on his family.

“Now I get up early, around 4:30 or 5 a.m., read the news early, exercise and answer emails,” he explained. “Then I get the kids up and help them with their morning routine, if you can call it a routine.”

But even in 2017, Sheen admits he was hitting the bottle hard the moment he woke up. So what changed?

“One morning I forgot that my daughter had a date that I had promised to take her to and she had already had a couple of drinks that day,” he explained, referring to his 19-year-old daughter, Sami. of her marriage to Denise Richards.

“So I had to call my friend Tony to take us. We got her there on time, but he broke my heart because she was in the back seat and I could tell she was thinking, ‘Why doesn’t Dad drive?’ So I came home and sat with that for the rest of the day. And the next morning I just stopped,” she admitted.

Sheen goes on to reveal in the interview that he quit drinking cold turkey that same day after already breaking his drug addiction.

“I think the first month I thought, I’m going to have to wait a month to see if I feel better and if my interactions with the people closest to me improve,” Sheen said. “And they did it. And I said, okay, I’m going to go one more month. And then he got traction. I had momentum.”

Since then, Sheen has steadily returned to the screen and grown closer to his family. But even with all the ups and downs, he always comes back to that fateful moment with his daughter that set him right.

“I’m proud of the decisions I made and the changes I made to live a life today that will never look like this,” Sheen continued. “That was an alien version of myself.”
