“Next month I will be six years sober,” he shared with People. “Now I have a very consistent lifestyle. “It’s all about single dad stuff and raising my 14-year-old twin sons Max and Bob.”
The twins are Charlie’s youngest children, whom he shares with Brooke Mueller.
What got him sober was forgetting one of his daughter’s appointments. He is also the father of Sami and Lola, with the ex Denise Richards, and the eldest is Cassandra Jade Estevez, with Paula Profit.
“One morning I forgot that my daughter had an appointment that I had promised to drive her to and I had already had a couple of sodas that day,” Charlie said. “So I had to call my friend Tony to take us. We got her there on time, but she broke my heart because she was in the back seat and I could tell she was thinking, ‘Why doesn’t Dad drive?’ So I came home and sat with that for the rest of the day. And the next morning I just stopped.”
After that, Charlie, who had already stopped using drugs, stopped drinking alcohol the next day.
“I think the first month I thought, I’m going to have to wait a month to see if I feel better and if my interactions with the people closest to me improve,” he recalled. “And they did it. And I said, okay, I’m going to go one more month. And then she got traction. I had momentum.”
“There was instant evidence that this was the side I needed to be on. “I can’t keep denying it anymore,” Charlie added.
