Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers fans dig through snow to find seats

The Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers faced off in a win-or-go-home playoff game on January 15. The game was initially scheduled for January 13. However, a historic snowstorm was declared a state of emergency.

This forced the game to be postponed until Monday afternoon.

Although the grounds staff were able to clear the field for the players, the fans were not so lucky. There was so much snow in the stands from the storm that there were no assigned seats. Some fans had to dig your way to a decent seat in the stadium.

New York governor attacks Steelers fans

The snow in Buffalo had reached such a dangerous level that there were still doubts that the game could be played on Monday, even after it had already been postponed.

The blizzard had reached such torrential weather conditions that a travel ban was imposed throughout Erie County, to ensure everyone’s safety. But the seriousness of the situation didn’t stop New York State Governor Kathy Hochul from having a little fun. Hochul took the opportunity to troll Steelers fans who were considering attending the game.

“One last piece of advice, and this is for our friends who are thinking about traveling from Pittsburgh to see the game.” Hochul said. “We think it’s best if you stay home and tune in to TV. It will be safer for all of us. “It’s going to be a tough game for you anyway.”

Did the NFL contradict itself by postponing the Steelers game?

There is no doubt that the best decision for everyone involved was to postpone the Chiefs-Steelers game. However, some feel the NFL made a decision that contradicted itself. While the Bills game was postponed, a matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins went ahead as scheduled. The game was played in sub-zero temperatures that felt like -27 degrees.

An NFL spokesperson explained the league’s reasoning behind that decision. “There are no public safety concerns about getting to the stadium for fans, clubs, stadium staff or public authorities,” he stated.

However, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III believes the wrong decision was made.

“The Dolphins-Chiefs game should also be postponed. “-1 degree weather, with -30 degree wind chill, snow and 29 mph winds IS NOT SAFE for players or fans and NOT FOOTBALL WEATHER,” he tweeted.
