In 1984, he co-founded Bruce Hornsby and the Range with David Mansfield (guitar, mandolin, violin), George Marinelli (guitar and backing vocals), Joe Puerto (bass guitar and backing vocals) and John Molo (drums). The band signed to RCA in 1985 and later released their debut album The Way It Is, which was a huge success. In 1986, the disc won its first Grammy Award. Scenes from the Southside, the band’s second album, was released in 1988.
