Because of his birthplace outside the US, former professional baseball player and successful manager Bruce Douglas Bochy has attracted enormous curiosity about his ethnicity.
Despite being an American manager, Bruce Bochy holds dual citizenship, making him one of the few successful managers who was not born in the United States.
Bruce Bochy was born in Bussac-Forêt on April 16, 1955 to Sergeant Gus Bochy and Melrose Bochy. Bruce and his family embarked on an exciting journey that took them to numerous locations, including the Panama Canal Zone and South Carolina, before settling in Melbourne.
Bochy graduated from high school in Melbourne and was a member of the school’s baseball team, where he played with Darrell Hammond, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live.
After two years at Brevard Community College, where he helped lead the team to the 1975 state championship, Bruce decided to continue his baseball career under Eddie Stanky.
Before becoming a manager, Bochy was a player for many clubs, including the Houston Astros, New York Mets and San Diego Padres. In his managerial career, he successfully managed two teams: the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants, and he currently manages the Texas Rangers.

Bruce Bochy Ethnicity and Nationality

Bruce is also married to Kim Seib, whom he met in college and later started dating. Kim and Bruce married in 1978 after three years of dating. Brett and Greg Bochy are the couple’s two children. Both of his children played baseball, with Greg playing for the San Diego Padres and Brett joining the San Francisco Giants in 2010. Both of his sons are now married with children of their own.

Bruce Bochy has had many surgeries to treat problems with his heart and other parts of his body. Bochy had an angioplasty in February 2015. Two stents were placed in a blood artery that was 90% blocked.
Bochy was hospitalized again in 2016 due to an abnormal heart function and underwent cardioversion surgery, which caused him to miss a game. After feeling discomfort, he underwent a mild heart ablation. He had another ablation treatment after the game season. Bruce had back surgery, two hip replacements and a knee replacement along with heart surgery.
