Brandon McMullen was born on Monday, 18 October 1999 (age 24 years; as of 2023) in Durban, South Africa. His zodiac sign is Libra. He did his schooling at Clifton Preparatory School, Nottingham Road and Hilton College, South Africa. He pursued his higher education at the University of Stirling, Scotland. During an interview, he shared that when he was young, his father and brother were his cricket coaches, teaching him the game. He also mentioned that his stepmother played a significant role by supporting him and watching his matches when he was in junior school. While studying at Hilton College, he served as the captain of the cricket team. In an interview, he talked about captaining the team and said,

Domestic Cricket

When he was living in South Africa, he played cricket at the under-19 level for KwaZulu-Natal Inland and Hollywoodbets Dolphins. In 2017, he participated in the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week held in Johannesburg, representing KZN Inland U19. The following year, he played in the Cubs Franchise Week in Stellenbosch, representing Dolphins U19. In 2018, after relocating to Scotland, he joined Stirling County Cricket Club to play club cricket. He also played regional cricket for Western Warriors.

In Scotland, he participated in the West Premier League and the Scottish Cup, which is a knockout competition at the national level. He also played in several T20 competitions. In all these matches, he scored a total of 748 runs with an average of 47, achieving 7 fifties and 1 hundred. His highest individual score was 127. His outstanding contribution led his team to a close victory. During the tournament, he achieved a remarkable feat by scoring his first-ever One Day International (ODI) century against Oman. He scored an impressive total of 136 runs from 121 balls in that match. In the same tournament, Scotland secured a significant victory by defeating the West Indies by seven wickets. The West Indies team set a target of 181 runs, but Scotland managed to chase it down and scored 185/3 in 43.3 overs to claim the win.
