Carlile was born on June 1, 1981 in Ravensdale, Washington. Her hometown is hundreds of miles away from Seattle. She played music with her siblings Jay and Tiffany when she was little. Brandi Carlile started singing when she was a child. By the age of eight, she was performing country songs on stage.
Carlile began writing lyrics and music when she was 15, after playing Johnny Cash’s “Tennessee Flat Top Box” with her mother, Teresa Carlile. Tahoma High School was where the brilliant singer went before she ran away from school to pursue her singing career. After hearing the songs of Elton John, Brandi taught herself to play the piano, and then at the age of 17 she learned to play the guitar.
