Bobby Kelton Career

“You’re going to endure loss by the time you’re 50. Undoubtedly, I’ve lost a few close friends, some of them in the comedic community. Since they are my age, it always comes as a shock. The passing of George Schumer, my best buddy who I had known since kindergarten on Long Island, was the one that hit home the most. Three years ago, he suffered a heart attack and passed away. I only spoke with him the previous evening. Aside from my grandparents, it was really the first time something terrible happened to someone so close to me.
After that, you begin to worry that you might not speak to everyone you are conversing with again. But now days, I converse with George while I jog.
People frequently attribute the deceased with the phrase “He or she must have made this happen.” Ironically, my grandfather, who had the name George, loved to fish. My 92-year-old mother recently came to see me in Florida and caught nine fish. My mother and I both said, “George must have made that happen.”

We had a passion for the San Francisco Giants, and oddly, just before having a heart attack, he wrote to me in an email, “If they ever win the World Series, I’ll die a lucky man.” You have to realise that we had been waiting our entire lives for the Giants to triumph, and two years after George’s passing, they did!

A baseball card with a photo of me wearing a Giants uniform that I use as a business card was buried in a hole I made in the earth close to his cremated remains.
I just had a wonderful feeling about it afterwards. In years to come, I wonder if that card will still be buried there.
