Facts/General Knowledge
- Due to her similar trajectory to that of fellow Manipuri weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, Bindyarani is often referred to as Mirabai 2.0.
- Although many media houses consider Mirabai Chanu as Bindyarani’s role model, in an interview she revealed that she grew up considering Kunjarani Devi as her role model. Kunjarani Devi, who hails from Imphal, is one of the most celebrated Indian weightlifting athletes. Bindyarani Devi said in an interview,
Although we come from the same state and cities around Imphal, I am not related to Mirabai Chanu. I didn’t follow him in weightlifting. I was inspired by Kunjarani Devi.”
- When Bindyarani Devi first reached the national camp at NIS Patiala in 2019, she did not have a pair of weightlifting shoes. After this, Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu came forward to help him and gifted him training shoes.
