Just after Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, took the stage and criticized the Grammys for never awarding him Album of the Year, her father, Mathew Knowles, shared his thoughts on the situation.
During the big music event, Jay-Z took the stage after receiving the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. During his acceptance speech, the rapper took the opportunity to talk about his wife’s accomplishments, despite never receiving Album of the Year.
“I don’t want to embarrass this young woman, but she has the most Grammys of anyone,” Jay-Z said of Beyonce. “And she never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that: the most Grammy Awards. She never won album of the year. That does not work. Some of you will go home and feel like you’ve been robbed. [Others] you may be robbed. “Some of you don’t belong in this category.”
Before continuing with his speech, Jay-Z noted that when he gets nervous he tends to tell the truth. “But other than that, we have to keep showing up,” he added. “Keep showing up until they give you all those praises you think you deserve. Until they call you president. Until they call you the greatest of all time.”
Less than 24 hours later, Beyoncé’s father, Mathew, had some thoughts on the situation. “People don’t know the process,” he told TMZ Live. “Your record label can only name one person in a category. That means that her record label (I’m going to call you out, Columbia Records) her record label has never really put her in that category for consideration.”
Mathew also said that he has spent 14 years in theaters supporting the label. “I know exactly how this works,” he added.

In November 2023, Jay-Z spoke about his wife, Beyonce, and how hard she has worked for her successful music career.
“My wife, I know how hard she works,” Jay-Z said. CBS Mornings Gayle Rey. She also talked about her Renaissance world tour. “For me, it is the best tour of hers. It’s really difficult to compare them. Because everyone has their different things of genius. But this seemed to me the most complete.”
He also talked about Blue, his and Beyoncé’s oldest daughter. “Since she was born, she has been under public scrutiny and attention and everyone has an opinion, even about a little girl. [like] how he maintains his hair. So for her to be on that stage and claim her power from her (and the song is called ‘My Power’) is like you couldn’t write a better script.”
