The Knowles-Rowland House will cost about $8.4 million to build and is getting a sizable donation of $7.2 million from the American Rescue Plan, alongside other supporters including Texas’ Rice University, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The housing complex will feature 31 new units of permanent housing for the unhoused built at the Bread of Life gymnasium.
Harris County records show that the housing project will also include various services – including case managers, peer specialists, and service specialists to mental and behavioral health assistance and transportation – for the residents.
Rudy Rasmus – a local pastor and executive director of Bread of Life – expressed his gratitude for the county’s partnership and thanked Beyonce, Kelly, and their fellow Destiny’s Child band mate Michelle Williams for their contributions to the city over the years.
“This will be our fifth housing development in downtown in Precinct 1 over these last 17 years, and we’re just really grateful to continue to help end homelessness in our count,” Rasmus shared with the Chronicle.
Judge Lina Hidalgo noted there are plans for a “bigger launch” event for the housing complex in September when Beyonce comes to Houston for her Renaissance World Tour.
Back in 2021, Beyonce provided financial assistance to Texas residents after a giant crisis.
