Betty Wright was an American soul and R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, and backing vocalist. Betty Wright is famous for her singles like “Tonight is the Night” and “Clean Up Woman.”

Early life

Betty Wright was born on December 21, 1953. She was born in Miami, Florida, USA, as Bessie Regina Norris. She was the youngest and had six other siblings. Her parents are Rosa Akins Braddy-Wright (mother) and McArthur Norris (father).

Death

Unfortunately, she died of cancer, May 10, 2020, at his home in Miami. Betty was 66 years old and her niece first announced the news of her death. Likewise, on May 3, 2020, fellow singer ‘Chaka Khan’ posted a video of Betty in Instagram captions;

Betty Wright – Career and professional life

Betty began her career as a member of her family’s gospel group ‘The Echoes of Joy’. She and she began working as a backup singer for other singers at the age of thirteen. Likewise, when she was only 15 years old she recorded her 1968 debut album “My First Time Around.” And so she began her first hit song, “Girls Can’t Do What Boys Can Do.”

Additionally, she had her biggest and most beloved hit with the extremely funky and daring “Clean Up Woman.” And it peaked at No. 2 on the R&B charts and No. 6 on the Billboard pop charts in 1972.
