There she got a scholarship to learn dance in Melbourne and did her training in musical theatre. She did her training in various dance forms like ballet, jazz, and contemporary.
Drag Queen
She discovered the captivating world of drag during a trip to Australia when she attended her first drag show. The experience left an indelible mark on her, and it was during a conversation with the drag queen Penny Silon that she felt a strong urge to introduce this vibrant culture to India. With Christmas schemes and discounts, she bought makeup not just for herself but also for her family, intending to use it for a greater purpose back in India. It was during Kitty Su Delhi’s sixth-anniversary celebration that Prateek’s transformation into a drag queen began. Inspired by Violet Chachki’s (a drag queen) performance, she decided to attend the event in drag, despite her initial nervousness. Encouraged by her sister, she started exploring makeup techniques and further immersed herself in the drag world through films like “Paris Is Burning” and the TV series “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” As she delved deeper into the world of drag, she honed her skills and experimented with her drag persona. Her first performance came unexpectedly during a sex-education workshop at St. Columbus School in Delhi. Eager to showcase her best moves, she took the stage and received a positive response from the audience. Her journey continued as she wrote a piece on drag for Youthkiawaaz, catching the attention of Keshav Suri, who invited her to perform at Kitty Su. This marked the birth of Betta Naan Stop. Reflecting on her earlier life, she revealed that she had been a quiet child and never considered herself gay. Growing up, she would secretly crossdress and experiment with makeup, but she never thought that drag could become a profession. Despite facing difficulties in finding work as a male dancer, she pursued her passion for dance and even spent time on a scholarship program for dance in Australia. Throughout her journey, she had the unwavering support of her family, particularly her open-minded mother and elder sister. Despite facing some challenges with extended family members who held different views, she remained true to herself and focused on her passion for drag. In 2017, he started experimenting with makeup, and by the end of the year, he performed for the first time at a queer workshop in Delhi, dancing to Ariana Grande’s “Greedy.” In an interview, she said that drag had come into her life at a crucial moment when she was at a crossroads in her creative career. Dissatisfied with the lack of opportunities as a male dancer, she tried corporate jobs and even worked at a call centre for a brief period. Through her performances, Prateek aimed to use her platform for the betterment of society, inspiring others to embrace their authentic selves and follow their dreams.
