The 2024 Oscar nominations have been officially announced and they seem to be missing a major star, in the eyes of Barbie fans, at least. Margot Robbie, the actor behind the film’s main character, did not receive a nomination and the countless Barbie Devotees on social media were quick to express their outrage.
Now, that’s not it Barbie was completely snubbed. On the contrary, Greta Gerwig’s creation did quite well in terms of nominations.
Barbie received a Best Picture nomination. Additionally, AmΓ©rica Ferrera was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor. The pink-soaked film also received nominations in the categories of Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song.
The only problem? The Best Actress nominations went to Annette Bening (nyad), Lily Gladstone (Flower Moon Killers), Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a fall), Carey Mulligan (Teacher), and Emma Stone (poor things), with no Margot Robbie in sight.
It didn’t help that Greta Gerwig wasn’t nominated for Best Director either.

“WHAT???? Margot Robbie is being snubbed,” another fumed. “Wait, Ryan Gosling was nominated for his role as Ken, but Margot Robbie wasn’t nominated for Barbie? And Greta?!” was rejected for Best Director?!?! What a way to justify the literal plot of the movie,β said a third.
