The controversy began when the presenter compared the box office and critical success to the other summer hit, oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan. “oppenheimer was based on a 700-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book and Barbie “It’s based on a plastic doll with big tits,” Koy joked. The broadcast then cut to see Ryan Gosling, who played Ken in the film, looking stone-faced.
“The key moment in Barbie is when she goes from perfect beauty to bad breath, cellulite and flat feet, or what casting directors call ‘character actor,'” Koy added, agitated. Internet weighs in on Jo Koy’s ‘Barbie’ jokes
Naturally, viewers flocked to X to share their amusement at the awkward moment. “Margot Robbie felt very bad for him in an empathetic way. Give him a prize for that.” one fan joked. “Ryan’s appearance didn’t even fake a smile, he was just uncomfortable,” another agreed.
One Barbie fan noted that Jo Koy’s joke glossed over the film’s main themes. “I like how Greta’s face just says, ‘Is that what you got from the movie?'” they wrote.
When the prank didn’t work, Koy attempted to shift the blame to the show’s writers in an effort to defend himself. “Some I wrote, some they wrote,” she pleaded on the Golden Globes stage.
“Hey, I got the job 10 days ago! Do you want a perfect monologue? Be quiet! You are kidding, right? Decelerate. I wrote some of these and they are the ones you laugh at,” she explained.
Naturally, Koy may be aware of the fact that his awkward joke about Taylor Swift might have generated negative feelings from Swifties everywhere.
“As you know, we arrived after a double football game. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” Koy said in the opening monologue. The broadcast then cut to show Swift drinking her drink, with bad blood in her eyes.
