On June 3, 2002, she married Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, but their marriage remained a secret until Malik married Indian tennis player Sania Mirza in 2010. Initially, Shoaib refused his marriage to Ayesha. However, he later revealed that Ayesha had cheated him. In an interview, he shared that in 2001, when he was in Sharjah to play a cricket match for the Pakistani cricket team, Ayesha called him and introduced him as a fan of Shoaib. They exchanged their phone numbers and began talking to each other regularly. He said that Ayesha sent him her pictures. Shoaib also showed those pictures to his parents.

He then asked Ayesha to meet her parents, but she continued to resist. Malik said that he said that they would meet only at his wedding. According to some reports, Ayesha once met him with one of her cousin sisters and introduced her cousin as Ayesha. In an interview, Shoaib told that when he met Ayesha’s parents, he was surprised because the real Ayesha was completely different from his pictures and she had sent pictures of some other girls and told them her pictures. According to Ayesha’s father, Ayesha and Shoaib got married over a phone call in June 2002. In an interview, Malik said,
I was just 20 years old then and there was a lot of pressure from Ayesha to get married as she was saying that her family was getting a bad name in Hyderabad because the word had spread that we were courting. One morning in June 2002, I left my house and went to my friend’s shop and made a call from there. I got a marriage certificate, I signed it, thinking that the girl I was marrying was the same girl in the pictures.”
In 2010, when Shoaib announced his marriage to Sania, Ayesha and her parents came forward in front of the media and asked Shoaib to divorce his first wife Ayesha. On 7 April 2010, Malik divorced Ayesha and paid Rs 15 crore as alimony.
