Ashokan (1962 – 2022) was an Indian film director. He worked mainly in Malayalam cinema. During his filmmaking career, he directed more than 130 Malayalam films. He died on 26 September 2022 in Kochi, India after suffering from multiple health issues. He was living in Singapore with his family and managing a software company there. He was flown from Singapore to India a few months before his death and was kept under medical observation in a hospital in Kochi.

Ashokan started working in the Malayalam film industry after completing his higher education. He took inspiration from the late filmmaker J. Started working as an assistant director under the supervision of Sasikumar. In the late 1980s, he became an independent director and started directing Malayalam films. In 1989, he made his directorial debut with the film Varnam, which featured Malayalam actors Jayaram, Ranjini and Suresh Gopi in the lead roles.
In the early 1990s, he became popular in the Malayalam film industry for directing superhit films such as Saandram (1990), Mookilla Rajyathu (1991), and Acharyaan (1993). These films brought him huge commercial popularity and critical success. Reportedly, Ashokan collaborated mostly with Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi in film direction. He then directed the film Sandram in 1990 starring Suresh Gopi and Parvathy. He co-directed the film with filmmaker Thaha. In the film, Suresh Gopi and Parvathy played the role of a married couple, and while the couple was on their honeymoon, they were haunted by a dangerous man.
Later, he filmed a telefilm Kanappurangal, which was awarded the prestigious Kerala State Film Award. In 1993, he made the Malayalam film Acharyaan, written by journalist-screenwriter B. Jayachandran.
In 1991, he directed the Malayalam film Mukkila Rajayathu, which was a superhit. This film is known as the best comedy film of Malayalam film industry. The film starred Thilakan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Mukesh and Thilakan. The story of the film revolves around these four people who escaped from a mental hospital and struggled a lot for their survival in the outside world.
In 2003, his telefilm Melody of Loneliness earned the Kerala State Award by the Government of Kerala soon after its release.

On 26 September 2022, Raman Ashok Kumar died in a hospital in Kochi, India, after suffering from multiple health problems.
Facts/General Knowledge
- After this he stopped his film production career and moved to Singapore after marriage. In Singapore, he started his own software company and started working as its director. The administration of the company was handled by his family members.
