He also serves as the Chancellor of Allahabad University, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and a member of the Governing Council of IIM Raipur.

  • While working at NSE, he helped build the trading infrastructure at NSE and NSE-50 (NIFTY). He was also responsible for setting up the first commercial satellite telecommunication network in India for NSE. He also introduced the concept of National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCCL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
  • In 2009, when he started working at BSE, he helped make BSE the fastest exchange in the world. He also introduced the concept of mobile trading.   • In 2013, stock exchange conditions improved largely since 1875. In an interview, Ashish, while talking about the growth of the stock exchange, said,

    You see BSE as a 137 year old stock exchange. I see it as a new company that was spun off in 2007. We have a new management who is running this business professionally. And the results are visible.”

  • He was a very quiet and disciplined child since childhood, due to which many of his relatives thought that he would eventually become a monk.
  • In an interview, he said that he faced a language barrier while studying at IIT Mumbai as he studied in a Gujarati medium school and was not good at speaking or understanding English. He further said that he did not run away from the situation, but as a teacher he used a dictionary and learned English.
  • According to Ashish, he spends more than sixteen hours daily at his work. Talking about this in an interview he said,

    I start my day with puja and end the day with puja and meditation. This is a very personal puja, part of my family tradition. My work starts at 7 in the morning and I retire around 11 in the day.
