Arya Rajendran is a young politician from Kerala and the current mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist). She was appointed as mayor at the age of 21, equaling the record of Suman Koli (elected as mayor from Bharatpur Municipal Corporation in 2009) of becoming India’s youngest mayor.

Arya Rajendran was born on Tuesday, 12 January 1999 (age 23 years; as of 2022) in Mudavanmugal, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She completed her schooling from Carmel Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Cotton Hill. She is currently pursuing B.Sc Mathematics from All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram (2019-present). After taking over the reins of the city administration as Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, Arya is determined to take up his political responsibilities while also focusing on his studies.

His father, Rajendran (electrician) and mother Srilatha (insurance agent) have been Communist Party of India (Marxist) loyalists for almost three decades. His elder brother, Arvind, works as an automobile engineer in Abu Dhabi.

She is in a relationship with Sachin Dev, who is considered to be the youngest MLA in the Kerala Assembly. As SFI workers they became good friends.
political career
Arya became associated with CPI(M) at an early age, when she joined Balasangam, the children’s organization of CPI(M), in class 5. After reaching college, she joined the Students Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the CPI. (M). She is currently the state president of Balasangham and state officer of SFI. She successfully contested the 2020 Kerala civic body elections on a CPI(M) ticket and was elected Municipal Councilor from Mudavanmugal ward and Mayor from Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. He received 54 votes out of 100 members of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation and defeated BJP candidate Simi Jyotish, who had secured 35 votes in the mayoral election. It is believed that the CPI(M) assigned him as its mayoral candidate from Thiruvananthapuram on the basis of his performance record as the state president of its children’s organisation, Balasangham.

Facts/General Knowledge
- Arya spends most of her free time listening to music, poetry and reading books. Malayalam writer KR Meera is one of her personal favorite writers.
- She is the third woman from CPI(M) to head an urban local government as mayor.
