Arun Goyal is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS officer) of 1985 batch of Punjab cadre. On 19 November 2022, he was appointed as the Election Commissioner of India.

Arun Goyal was born on Friday, 7 December 1962 (age 60 years; as in 2022) in Punjab, India. Their zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He received B.A. (Mathematics) and M.Sc. Passed. (Mathematics) from Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab as a gold medalist. He then obtained a PG Diploma in Development Economics from Churchill College, University of Cambridge, England. In 1985, he received the Chancellor’s Medal (highest honour) for excellence in education from the Governor of Punjab.

in-service training

In 1989, Arun Goyal began his in-service training as a development administrator at the National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad and trained there until 1990. From 1992 to 1993, he did his in-service training in the Junior Level Program in Administrative Training. Institute, Mysore. In 1999, he started mid-level in-service training in batches at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. A year later, he took in-service training in disaster management at the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi. Some of his other training services include Senior Level (1982-85) batch (2002-2003) at Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, Ethical Leadership at IC Center for Governance (ICCG), Panchgani (2005-2006), Advanced Course on WTO at the Indian Administrative Staff College, Hyderabad (2006-2007), Strategies on Negotiations and Public Private Partnerships at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (2009-2010), Governance and Social Policy at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. (2012-2013), Improving Governance through Accountability at the National Academy of Audit and Accounts, Shimla (2014-2015), Inner Engineering Leadership Program at Isha (Foundation) Yoga Centre, Coimbatore (2015-2016), and Economic Offenses Investigation of Financial Markets at the National Institute of Security Markets, Mumbai (2016-2017).
