Aparajita Sarangi passed the Civil Services Examination in her first attempt in 1994 and joined as Sub-Collector of Hindol, Dhenkanal, Odisha. He served as Collector in Khurda, Koraput, Nuapada and Bargarh districts of Odisha and District Magistrate in Ganjam, Odisha. He served as the Director of Panchayati Raj Department. She was the Municipal Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for three years and Commissioner and Secretary Director, School and Mass Education Department, Bhubaneswar and Textiles and Handloom Department.
political career
She voluntarily resigned from administrative services and joined BJP in June 2018.
Aparajita contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Bhubaneswar constituency and defeated former Mumbai Police commissioner Arup Patnaik of BJD.
controversies
- In 2010, Aparajita Sarangi introduced a dress code for teachers in Orissa. The issue arose regarding the color of the dress. Additionally, many teachers expressed disappointment with the dress code and a section of teachers protested against it.
- Another controversy arose when Aparajita and School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena disagreed over the color of teachers’ uniforms. While Aparajita insisted on pink sarees with black blouses, the minister’s choice fell on beige sarees with navy blue border.
- In 2017, Aparajita, the then secretary of school and mass education, announced a ban on entrance exams for classes I to VIII. However, department minister Pratap Jena said that he was not aware of the matter and the decision had been taken without taking him into confidence. The reason for the clash is said to be dress code dispute.
