Watching the trailer for Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney’s Nobody but you, you might think that the film is a thriller. It’s actually an R-rated romantic comedy.
Director Will Gluck accepts responsibility for any misconceptions about the film, which were made abundantly clear by the newly released trailer earlier this week.
He explained what happened in a recent interview.

“I blame myself,” Will told EW. “The teaser was not well received and I put it completely on my shoulders.”
He went on to explain where it went wrong: “We tried to be too cute with it. It’s a very funny comedy, and if you saw that preview without anything else, you’d think, ‘Are they going to kill someone?’ Is this a thriller? That was a mistake on my part. I just wanted people to come up and say, ‘What is this?’”
“The people bowed [to the teaser] and I said: ‘I’m not going to like this,’ which is not the movie,” he added.
Will set the record straight about what Nobody but you actually it’s about.
“The film is an edgy R-rated comedy with romantic and farcical elements. It’s big musical numbers and wish fulfillment. You can see sunny Australia in the middle of winter in the west. That’s what you’re going to see in the trailer. So clean that up [teaser] out of your memory,” he said.Nobody but you opens in theaters on December 22. Press play on the trailer below!
