Ankita Bhakta is an Indian archer who specializes in recurve archery. She is the only left-handed archer from India to participate in international competitions for women’s individual, women’s team and mixed team recurve events. She gained attention in 2023 when she won a bronze medal in the archery recurve women’s team event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Ankita Bhakta was born on Wednesday, 17 June 1998 (age 25 years; as of 2023) in Sithi Mor near Baranagar, Kolkata. His zodiac sign is Gemini. At the age of 10, Ankita participated in a local archery tournament at the Circus Grounds in Kolkata, which developed her curiosity about the sport. Shortly after, she joined a local archery club in the city to start practicing. Facing financial challenges, he struggled to purchase expensive archery equipment. However, his passion for the game remained the same. To overcome the obstacle, he borrowed equipment from fellow club members for practice as he did not have his own bow and arrows for long parts of his journey. In 2014, Ankita joined the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. There he received training from coaches Dharmendra Tiwari, Purnima Mahato and Ram Awadhesh. Bhakta performed well in the Archery Association of India (AAI) trials and earned a place in the Indian national team for the 2015 World Archery Youth Championships in Yankton. A week before the tournament, he, along with 18 other Indian athletes and coaches, faced visa denial to enter the US.

In 2015, she won a bronze medal in the girls’ individual recurve event and a silver medal in the girls’ recurve team event at the Seoul International Youth Archery Festa in Seoul. In 2016, she defeated Prachi Singh by a score of 6–2 in the All-Indian first-round match, but lost to Jeon Hunyoung by a score of 0–6 in the pre-quarterfinals of the women’s individual recurve event. At the Indoor Archery World Cup (Stage 2) in Bangkok. At the 2017 Asia Cup (Stage 2) in Bangkok, she faced Deepika Kumari in the women’s individual event, losing 2–6. In the women’s recurve team event, she and her teammates Promiya Demri and Sakshi Rajendra Shitole lost to Chinese Taipei in the final by a score of 0–6. In 2017, she competed in the women’s recurve event at the 37th Indian Senior National Championships in Faridabad. Although she reached the final, she lost 6–2 to Deepika Kumari. At the 2017 Asia Cup (Stage 3) world ranking tournament in Chinese Taipei, she competed in the women’s individual, women’s team and mixed team events. He won a bronze medal in the mixed team event with his partner Mukesh Boro. In 2017, during his training in Sonipat, Haryana, he was selected as one of the 24 members to represent the Indian national team at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina. At the World Youth Archery Championships, Ankita Bhakat and her partner Jameson Singh Ningthoujam competed against the Russian team in the recurve junior mixed team event and won 6–2. They won against the Korean team (5–4) in the quarter-finals and the Ukrainian team (6–0) in the semi-finals and reached the final. He won the gold medal by finishing ninth in the tournament. The win marked India’s fourth overall World Youth Championships title after a gap of six years following Deepika Kumari’s wins in 2009 and 2011. In April 2018, Ankita competed in the women’s individual, women’s team and mixed team recurve events at the 2018 Archery World Cup. She finished eighth in the individual recurve event with a score of 665 out of 720 in the qualification round. In the third round, she won against Bombayla Devi Laishram with a score of 6-4, but in the fourth round, she lost to An Qixuan of China 4-6. In the women’s team event, she reached the quarterfinals with teammates Promila Demri and Deepika Kumara but lost to the Chinese team 1–5. In the mixed team event, partnering Atanu Das, they lost 4–5 to the United States team in the quarterfinals. In May 2018, Ankita competed in the women’s individual and women’s recurve team events at the 2018 Archery World Cup – Stage 2 in Antalya, Turkey. In the team event, partnering Promila Daimary and Deepika Kumari, they won the second round and quarter-finals to reach the semi-finals by defeating the French and Russian teams with scores of 5–3 and 5–1 respectively. However, they lost 2–6 to the South Korean team in the semi-finals. In 2021, at the Archery World Cup in Guatemala, the Indian women’s recurve team, comprising Ankita Bhakta, Deepika Kumari and Komalika Bhari, won the gold medal. In January 2022, she claimed the individual recurve women’s title at the National Archery Ranking Tournament.
In 2022, Ankita along with Deepika Kumari and Simranjit Kaur won a silver medal in the recurve women’s team final at the Paris Archery World Cup Stage 3.
In March 2023, Ankita earned a silver medal at the 43rd NTPC Senior National Championship.
In April 2022, Ankita won the gold medal and Rs. Prize money of Rs 5 lakh in the first Khelo India Women’s National Ranking Archery Tournament at JRD Tata Sports Complex.
In August 2023, the Indian recurve women’s team of Bhajan Kaur, Simranjit Kaur and Ankita Bhakta won the bronze medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Paris, defeating Mexico by a score of 5–4. In October 2023, Ankita and Bhajan Kaur earned a bronze medal in the women’s recurve event at the Asian Games.
