Anita Hill began her legal career in 1980 as an associate at the District of Columbia Bar at the Washington, DC firm Wald, Harkader and Ross. A year later, in 1981, she became a consulting attorney for Clarence Thomas.
Clarence was then assistant secretary of the Office of Civil Rights of the United States Department of Education. Likewise, in 1982, Hill served as an assistant to Thomas when he became chairman of the United States Equal Opportunity Commission.
She left the job in 1983 and became an assistant professor at the OW Coburn Evangelical Christian Law School of Oral Roberts University.
Later in 1986, Hill joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. There she taught commercial law and contracts. Likewise, she taught for a decade.
Additionally, she also became a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, before joining the faculty at the Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

On October 11, 1991, she accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. Clarence was appointed federal circuit judge in 1991 by former US President George Bush. Hill testified that Thomas sexually harassed her when she worked for him.
Additionally, Hill was asked why she followed Thomas to the second job even after being harassed, so she explained that her ambition was to work in a reputable position that she was in.
He tolerated the harassment to work there, but later realized it was his poor judgment. However, the case was dismissed by the Senate because the members’ vote was in favor of Clarence.

In 1997, he published his first book (autobiography), Speaking Truth to Power. Here, she explained her side of the sexual harassment controversy and her professional relationship with Clarence Thomas.
