He played his first first-class game for Tamil Nadu in the 2003–04 Ranji Trophy at the age of 16. In the same month, he also made his List-A debut.
Although he did not get much success in the first-class, he performed brilliantly in the limited overs formats. He became the leading run-scorer for India Under-19 against England in 2004–05 and was also the leading run-scorer in the Inter-State Twenty20 in 2007. He played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). From 2008 to 2013, where in the 2010 semi-final against Deccan Chargers team, he scored 24 runs on 15 balls. In 2012, he scored 18 runs off 6 balls in a tight match against Rajasthan Royals. In 2014, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a huge amount. However, they get to play only one game in that tournament. He then scored 143 in an under-19 game against England at Kanchenjunga Krirangan, Siliguri in February 2005. England were batting first and scored 228 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, when India came to bat, they lost wickets at frequent intervals, it was Srikkanth who played aggressive cricket and led his team to victory. He last represented Tamil Nadu in February 2019. Subsequently, he missed their playing eleven in the entire 2019–20 Indian domestic season. In the same year, he also represented Tiruppur Tamizhans in the popular Tamil Nadu Premier League 2019 season.

- His performances in the 2007 Inter-State Twenty20 saw him included in the list of 30 probables for the India Green team for the ICC World Twenty20 as well as the 2007–08 Challenger Trophy.
