Angela Bassett is going to receive her Oscar!

The 64 year old man Black Panther The actress will be honored with an honorary trophy alongside filmmaker Mel Brooks, as well as Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter and editor Carol Littleton.

According to the announcement, via Variety, the four will receive their awards in the next edition of this year. Governors Awards which will take place in November.

“The Academy Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the motion picture industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,” Academy President Janet Yang shared in a statement.

He added of the honorees: “Throughout her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting. Mel Brooks lights our hearts with his humor and his legacy has had a lasting impact on all facets of entertainment. Carol Littleton’s career in film editing serves as a template for those who follow her. A pillar of the independent film community, Michelle Satter has played a vital role in the careers of countless filmmakers around the world.”

According to the Academy, the Honorary Award is “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, outstanding contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy.”

Angela has been nominated for an Oscar twice: in 1994 for Best Actress for What does love have to do with it?and most recently, at the 2022 Oscars for Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She was the fan favorite to win.

For Mel, he has been nominated three times and won once, in 1969, for Best Original Screenplay for The producers.
