Angad started practicing shooting in his teenage years. Initially, he trained in pistol shooting, and then he shifted to shotgun shooting as he found pistol shooting quite boring. In India he continued his studies and started taking marksmanship training. After this he represented Punjab in various shooting championships. In an interview, he shared how he developed interest in shooting. He said,

It originally started as a hobby eight years ago. I was always interested in guns and things like that. Dad got me involved in sports, my interest started growing and everything else fell into place. It was quite difficult because I ended up at a university in Vancouver. I broke the national record there in Canada. Then I had two things. I knew I wanted to play sports, but my studies would have been too difficult for me to pursue shooting. I couldn’t do both at the same time. I took a stand and when I came back dad was very supportive. I started performing really well, but it was quite difficult to make decisions.
