Anand Kumar was born on 1 January 1973 (age 50 years; as in 2023) in Patna, Bihar. Since he belonged to a middle class family, he was sent to a government school. To arouse his interest in mathematics, he formed a club named “Ramanujan School of Mathematics”. He got all the fame when his program Super-30 was aired on Discovery Channel in 2009.
Despite approaching the government and NGOs for financial support for his programme, he is still running it on his own.

Anand Kumar was born in a middle-class Hindu family and led a simple life before achieving big things with Super 30. Not much is known about his father other than the fact that he was a clerk in the Postal Department of India. Furthermore, his mother’s name is Jayanti Devi, who used to make papad; As a source of income after the demise of her husband. He has a younger brother, Pranav Kumar, who is a violinist. He is married to Ritu Kumar, an alumnus of IIT Roorkee. The couple has a son named Jagat Kumar.

After his father’s death, when he saw his mother hardworking, he helped her in making papad, which she used to make. But to continue his interest in mathematics, he started a coaching center next to the club which he started in 1992. They really helped the needy students to prepare to crack the competitive exams at genuine fees. Thus, the number of students increased to approximately 500 in just 3 years. Then in 2002, his program named Super-30 got a place. This program starts by providing assistance to 30 economically weaker students to prepare for IIT-JEE without charging any fees. Along with free coaching, free food and accommodation were also given. Basically he has fulfilled his dream of taking education to a revolutionary level of success.
Awards and Recognitions

- Soon after rising to fame, he appeared in a documentary conducted by Miss Japan Norika Fujiwara, who came to Patna to cover him.
- He was awarded the Ramanujan Mathematics Award on the occasion of the Eighth National Mathematics Conference held in Rajkot. He got S from IRDS. Ramanujan Mathematics Award was also awarded.
- He released a biography based on his life titled Super 30, written by Biju Mathew and covered by journalist Arun Kumar. In this book he has been praised as the face of Bihar.
Controversy
In 2018 he was accused of telling false stories to gain popularity; Because some of his students claimed him to be a fraud. According to him, Anand presented exaggerated figures about the success of his coaching centre, saying that 26 out of 30 students cleared the IIT-JEE exam in 2018. But, the reality was that only 3 students of Super-30 were able to pass the exam. The students also claimed that when they tried to enroll at his coaching centre, Anand referred them to another coaching institute called Ramanujam Mathematics Classes. The student trusted Anand and joined Ramanujam mathematics classes and later even paid high fees with an attractive offer to get his money back, but he never got his money back. However, Anand rejected all such claims and called it an attempt to damage the reputation of Super-30. In November 2019, he was directed to appear before the Gauhati High Court on November 28 besides paying Rs. Rs 50,000 to the parents and student who accused him.
