Fans of Star Wars didn’t know it was coming, but Anakin Skywalker has been given an eye-catching new costume for the upcoming Marvel title Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy. The Galactic Starcruiser tie-in comic book series has so far focused on depicting beloved, well-known characters aboard the High Republic era ship. Now, Anakin and his ill-fated love, Padmé Amidala are donning new looks in the third installment of the Star Wars limited series.
Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy is a miniseries written by Ethan Sacks, with art from Will Sliney and Rachelle Rosenberg, and lettered by Joe Sabino. The anthology series Halcyon Legacy looks to provide the background story for the Disney/Star Wars hotel of the same name, but readers can visit the attraction for a considerably cheaper ticket and journey along with Padme and Anakin this April 2022. And with a brand new look, as well.
The preview pages revealed for Star Wars: Halcyon Legacy #3 via Gamesradar find Anakin and Padmé on the hunt for a Separatist sympathizer. With the fate of the galaxy on the line, and Anakin and Padmé sailing towards what could prove to be the confirmation of the Republic’s worst fears, Asajj Ventress makes her return to cross blades with the Jedi Knight. As Anakin deftly maneuvers, comic readers will not be able to help but to notice something different about Anakin’s look.
Anakin Skywalker’s outfit leans into the sleek superhero persona he portrayed many times in the Clone Wars much to his master, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s, dismay. The cape also forces the reader to look forward to the next era of Anakin’s life as the Sith apprentice to Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader. The design, while quite fitting for Anakin’s role in the Clone Wars in the Republic timeline, can’t help but come off closer to how modern superheroes are framed.
Capes and tight suits may not necessarily be the best for hand-to-hand or lightsaber combat, but it sure looks cool as they’re twisting in the air fighting one evil menace’s war. Regardless of the billowing look or accentuation of muscles that may or may not be central to the character, it will be fun to see one of cinema’s best couples back together with no sand involved.
Star Wars: Halcyon #3 goes on sale April 13, 2022, with the first two issues already available in stores and on digital.
