All 12 Bokken Jedi In Star Wars Canon

generalize

  • The term “Boken Jedi” refers to the Jedi apprentices who were trained in the wild after the fall of the Jedi Temple, covering all new Jedi Knights after the third film.

  • This term means that those who trained in the wild were not considered true Jedi, as the “Bokken” was a wooden training sword.

  • Characters like Vala, Ezra Bridger, and even Luke Skywalker could all be considered Borken Jedi depending on their training and circumstances.

AhsokaBaylan Skoll introduces a new term Star Wars Canon, “Bokken Jedi” and many characters throughout the timeline can be defined this way. A Borken Jedi can be broadly defined as any Jedi Padawan who trained in the “wild” after the fall of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, essentially encompassing every new Jedi Knight since. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Having an official term to distinguish these Jedi is a fascinating concept that needs to be explored further, and encourages viewers to consider what makes someone a true Jedi.

It is unclear whether the old Jedi Order used Borken to describe certain members, or whether Belan himself invented the phrase. The Bokken is a wooden sword used for training, the same sword used by Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren Ahsoka Episode three, “Part Three: Time to Fly.” Just as wooden swords are not real blades, Borken Jedi implies that those trained in the wild are not true Jedi.Whatever the origin of the term, it is an interesting idea that expands Star Wars In-universe, the twelve Borken Jedi throughout the timeline have proven that they still have what it takes to become true Jedi.

12 Vera

Veera is the earliest known Borken Jedi Knight Star Wars After surviving Order 66, he was trained by Jedi Padawan Ferran Barr. Baal recruited many assistants to his cause, but Veela’s Force sensitivity qualified her for Jedi training, so he took her on as his apprentice. After her master’s death at the hands of Darth Vader, Vera went into hiding and attempted to continue her Jedi training alone. Years of being hunted by the Inquisitors led Vera to abandon her Jedi path, but she eventually met Luke Skywalker and guided him on the path to becoming a Jedi.

11 Ezra Bridger

The live-action Ezra Bridger appears in

only Star Wars Ezra Bridger trained as a Jedi in the years leading up to the Galactic Civil War and was specifically marked as a Borken Jedi by Belan. Like Vala, Ezra’s teacher was Jedi Padawan Kanan Jarrus, but unlike her, Ezra had the opportunity to train with his master for several years. Therefore, Belan may have viewed Ezra as a true Jedi, even though Borken’s definition of a Jedi meant that any student training in the wild was not a true Jedi. Despite this, Ezra proved himself a Jedi and became connected to the Force in ways that most users could only dream of.

10 Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren in Ahsoka and Rebels.

Based on Belan’s description of the Borken Jedi, he preferred to use this term to describe Sabine Wren. She was trained to become Force-desensitized after the fall of the Order and was trained by Ahsoka Tano, who left the Jedi before Order 66. Sabine is an unconventional Jedi in every way, and it’s unclear how she became one. She would achieve much in her path with the Force. Even so, she remains a member of Ahsoka’s family of unconventional Jedi, and Sabine is dedicated to mastering their path. Ahsoka believes that training and dedication are more important than talent, proving that a Borken Jedi is still a Jedi.

9 Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker holds a green lightsaber in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

luke skywalker now Star WarsThe original Borken Jedi, trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda during the rebellion against the Empire. Although Luke was eager to learn, he was also impatient, easily angered, and by Jedi standards, too old. He was also the son of the man who destroyed the Jedi Order, which meant Belan would look down on Luke as a Jedi candidate. Despite his father’s mistakes and the idiosyncratic nature of his training, Luke became one of the greatest Jedi of all time and trained a new generation of Jedi, later helping Rey do the same.

8 Leia Organa

Leia trains as a Jedi in The Rise of Skywalker.

Leia Organa was Luke’s first Jedi student, and she fulfilled Luke’s promise that his sister would learn to use the Force like him. Since Luke officially re-established the Jedi Order, it’s unclear whether Leia or his other students are technically Borken Jedi. She trained in the wild after the fall of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, so she appears to count as a Borken Jedi by Belan’s standards. Of course, when Leia sensed her son’s death at the end of her Jedi path, she surrendered her lightsaber and instead dedicated her life to politics. However, she did pass on her Jedi knowledge to Rey after Luke became one with the Force.

7 Grogu

Grogu

Although Grogu grew up in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, his longevity meant that he did not receive full Jedi training. He also suppressed much of his knowledge while hiding from the Empire, until Luke helped unlock his memories and taught him to use the Force. Luke offered to accept Grogu as the first student of his new Jedi Temple, but he chose to return to Din Djarin. Grogu’s childhood and time with Luke make him an interesting mix of traditional Jedi and Borken Jedi.

6 Ben Solo

Kylo Ren and Ben Solo in The Rise of Skywalker.

Ben Solo began his Jedi training with Luke at the age of nine, the same age as his grandfather Anakin Skywalker, when he was accepted into the Jedi Order. While this, like many Borken Jedi, goes against Jedi tradition, it shows that the old Jedi Order occasionally made exceptions. Of course, Belan would point out that Anakin grew up to destroy the Jedi Order, and sadly, Ben continued that legacy when he destroyed Luke’s temple. This would explain Baylan’s distrust of the Borken Jedi, fearing they would be like Anakin, and Ben’s fate as Kylo Ren proves those fears are not unfounded.

introduced in Star Wars: Shadow of the Sith By Adam Christopher Enjo is a Twi’lek Jedi who mentors young men at Luke’s Academy on Ossus. Training in a temple and training young sets her apart from other Borken Jedi, but Belan’s current definition still places her in that category. While her history is unknown, she was most likely killed when Ben destroyed the Temple of Luke.

4 Voy

Star Wars Voe Attack Ben Solo

Waugh was another of Luke’s students who had trained with Ben, but she always felt that her abilities were inferior in comparison. However, Luke insists that commitment is more important than talent, and Ahsoka teaches Sabine the same lesson. She is one of the students who disappeared after Ben destroyed the Temple, and is determined to track him down and bring him to justice. When Voy failed to defeat Ben or convince him to return, she was killed along with her fellow Jedi.

3 Hennix

Star Wars Hennix and Avar Kriss' Holocron

Hennix was also on the alien world when Ben destroyed the temple of Ossus and hunted him down with Vo. He often viewed the Force as a puzzle to be solved, and he was particularly interested in holocrons. After the Jedi hunted down Ben, Hennis was wounded and killed in the ensuing conflict.

Tai was the last of Luke’s Jedi students to survive Ben’s initial attack, and he joined Voy and Hennis in hunting down their fellow Padawan. He is one of Ben’s closest friends and initially refuses to believe that Ben is responsible, later trying to convince him to return voluntarily. Ty is unable to contact Ben and collapses along with his classmates, which is the final trigger for Ben to fully succumb to the dark side. While he may not have been able to change Ben’s heart, Ty’s words did foreshadow Ben’s eventual return to the light. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

1 Rey

Daisy Ridley plays lightsaber-wielding Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Rey is the newest Borken Jedi Star Wars By Belan’s standards, the word describes her well. She trained after the fall of not one but two Jedi Temples, and was briefly mentored by Luke before Leia taught her in the wild. Rey was at a disadvantage early in her training. She was afraid of the power awakening within her and didn’t know how to control it. Still, Rey’s compassion and determination prove that she already has everything she needs long before Leia completes her training.Belan may have mocked the Borken Jedi for establishing a new Jedi Order, but Rey and the others Star Wars Characters like her prove themselves to be true Jedi.
