Alka Nath was born on 24 November 1950 (age 68 years; as in 2018) in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacred Heart College, Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. Before joining politics, she was a social worker. He is a very private person and despite being an MP, he does not like politics much.

Alka Kamal Nath was born in a Hindu family in Amritsar, India to PC Paul (father). No details are known regarding his mother.
On 27 January 1973, Alka married Kamal Nath, the 18th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, India. The couple has two sons, an elder son – Nakul Nath (attached to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs) and a younger son – Bakul Nath. The Nath family owns 23 companies in India. If sources are to be believed, Alka and Kamal Nath rarely talk to each other. Moreover, during the 1996 elections, he also traveled in different cars. Alka Nath is known for her humanitarian work. He is also an artist. In 1996, Alka Nath’s husband Kamal Nath was chargesheeted in the Jain hawala case and he was denied a party ticket. To ensure that Congress does not lose the parliamentary seat, Kamal Nath presented his wife as a dummy candidate. She contested the elections to the 11th Lok Sabha and was elected Member of Parliament from Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh, India. However, after Kamal Nath’s name was cleared from the Jain hawala case, he resigned from the post of MP in 1997. The by-election was held after his resignation from the post of Madhya Pradesh MP; In which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won.
