Alka Nath was born on 24 November 1950 (age 68 years; as in 2018) in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacred Heart College, Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh. Before joining politics, she was a social worker. He is a very private person and despite being an MP, he does not like politics much.

To ensure that Congress does not lose the parliamentary seat, Kamal Nath presented his wife as a dummy candidate. She contested the elections to the 11th Lok Sabha and was elected Member of Parliament from Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh, India. However, after Kamal Nath’s name was cleared from the Jain hawala case, he resigned from the post of MP in 1997. The by-election was held after his resignation from the post of Madhya Pradesh MP; In which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won.
