The BBC has announced a new co-commission with BBC Northern Ireland as part of its commitment to its Across the UK initiative, which will add more regional culture to the schedules. Along with chef Mr. Greene of the Great British Menu, B&B By The Sea is run by a cast of fascinating new talent in an actual guesthouse on Downhill Beach.
In each episode, a different celebrity guest—all of whom have strong personal ties to the coast—will stay at the B&B and embark on a personal voyage of self-discovery and introspection while taking advantage of the local cuisine and the restorative setting.
So far, Richard Blackwood, Linford Christie, Fred Sirieix, and Deborah Meaden have reserved rooms at the B&B. Before returning to the B&B’s kitchen to create dishes that guests will be eager to attempt at home, Chef Alex Greene and the B&B staff explore the surrounding areas and local ingredients together.
Afro-Mic Productions is producing B&B By The Sea with funding from Northern Ireland Screen. It will be shown on BBC Two, BBC One Northern Ireland, and BBC iPlayer.
Hope Street, a well-liked Northern Ireland police drama, has also been recommissioned by BBC Daytime, BBC Northern Ireland, and BritBox International for a second season. Series two of Hope Street will premiere on BBC Daytime and BBC One Northern Ireland later in the year after filming starts in May 2022.
According to Carla-Maria Lawson, the departing head of BBC Daytime and Early Peak, “B&B By The Sea and Hope Street are additional examples of Daytime’s commitment to working more closely with our colleagues across the UK, bringing true representations to screen and strengthening our relationships with providers across the nations.”
“Hope Street was a real hit with our audiences and was an excellent platform for regional artists both in front of and behind-the-scenes,” Eddie Doyle, Head of Content Commissioning, BBC Northern Ireland, said.
“We are thrilled to have the actors and crew back in Donaghadee. I’m especially excited by the news of B&B By The Sea, which promises to showcase Northern Ireland’s stunning coast.
