Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar was born on Saturday, 3 February 2001 (age 20 years; as in 2021) in Ratanpur village, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. Their zodiac sign is Aquarius. He developed interest in shooting after watching shooting matches of his cousin Navdeep Singh Rathod, who is also an international shooter and his mentor.

He then started his professional training in shooting under Vaibhav Sharma at Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy in Bhopal in 2015.

In 2015, he was suspended from his first national due to some technical reasons, and he waited for a year to participate in a shooting match at the national level. Talking about this in an interview he said,

One butt plate was 1 cm below the permitted level and I was suspended due to this technicality. I had to start from zero, play at the state level, then pre-nationals and then nationals. This was the most difficult period. When I was selected in the trials for MP Shooting Academy, I knew that I would have to stay away from my family. It was difficult initially but I decided to go to the village during festivals. And I also decide to go to the Navgraha fair.”

Talking about Aishwarya during an interview, her coach Vaibhav said,

He joined the academy in 2015. He joined a summer camp in Bhopal. He was inspired by his brother who is himself a shooter. He started his Basics in 2015. He started with 10m and then we saw that he was performing well, he started participating in 50m events as well. If you were watching him live, when he won the medal, he had no reaction, no expression on his face because that is his nature. This is the reason why he is performing well. He is calm, happy but untouched by success. He enjoys the game.”

Aishwarya has participated in various shooting competitions at national and international level like ISSF World Cup and Olympics. He has won several medals for India in the 10 meter air rifle and 50 meter air rifle three positions events at the junior and senior levels. In 2021, he was ranked No. 2 in shooting by the ISSF. He did his training under various shooting coaches including his personal coach Vaibhav Sharma and national coach Suma Shirur.

He has represented India in air rifle events such as AR60, FR3X40, R3X40MIX and ARTEAMM. In 2021, she was selected in the Olympic quota to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The event was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • In 2018, he created a national record at the junior level by scoring 1173 points in the 50 meter rifle three-prone position event at the International Meeting of Shooting Hopes in Czech Republic.

Facts/General Knowledge

  • In an interview, when asked what inspired him to start shooting professionally, he replied,

    I got into shooting inspired by my cousin Navdeep Singh Rathore. He is also a shooter. He got admission in Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. I have been practicing there since 2015. The first year I was selected for Nationals, but I got disqualified. After this I had to wait for a year for Nationals. Won the National Championship in 2016. 2017-18 was not much better for me. Selected in junior team in 2019. Made records and won gold medals in the World Cup. Then reached the senior top-5.”

  • His father had a keen interest in shooting in his childhood, but could not pursue it as a career. Talking about this in an interview, his father had said,

    Being the landowner (of 50 acres of land), I own more than three guns and we would often go hunting when Aishwarya was younger. There was no one to tell me to shoot competitively when I was younger. But now when I have seen Aishwarya grow up and become a junior world champion, it feels like I have also become a world champion.

  • In 2019, he received the Ekalavya Award from the Government of Madhya Pradesh for his achievements in shooting.

  • Talking about Aishwarya in an interview, her national coach Suma Shirur said,

    Aishwarya’s biggest strength is her focus and this helped me train her when I joined the academy. We will work a lot on his fundamentals and he has always shown eagerness to compete in all three events, which is good for a young shooter. 3P requires a lot of stamina as it lasts for more than three hours. But Aishwarya will never hesitate to take extra training for the event.

  • During an interview, he told how he prepared for Tokyo Olympics 2020 during the lockdown. They said,

    I practice at Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. During the lockdown I went home and focused on my fitness with the help of Manav Rachna Academy. I didn’t even have a bullet or a rifle. State Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia got me the rifle because of special permission. I did dry training. As soon as the situation became normal after the lockdown and permission to practice came from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), I came to the academy and started practicing. To ensure that there is no problem in preparing for the World Cup and Olympics, I also ordered new equipment.

  • In an interview, Aishwarya told that earlier people used to make fun of her name. He said,

    I am often called Aishwarya Rai, today it was Akshay Kumar! Don’t know what’s going on! I had to show them my shooter’s ID, the name was wrong there too! Thankfully, all this has happened before me.
