The initial reactions to Disney+’s Ahsoka are finally here. Four years after she debuted the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2, Rosario Dawson is finally spearheading her own small-screen project. The wait may have been long, but it seems like Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka show is worth it, considering the social media reactions to the series.
Those who were able to see the first two episodes of Ahsoka have taken to Twitter to share their initial thoughts on the series. Check them out below:
Praising the series, SR‘s own Joseph Deckelmeier singles out Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Mary Elizabeth Winstead for their live-action portrayals of Star Wars Rebels characters Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla, respectively.
Molly Edwards highlights the “intriguing villains” as well as the “awesome lightsaber duels” already present in just the early episodes as reasons to be confident about what’s still to come.
Hailing “a VERY promising start,” Daniel Baptista claims Star Wars Rebels fans will particularly appreciate what Ahsoka has to offer.
Impressively, the reaction shared by Atom claims that Ahsoka is even better than the critically acclaimed Andor, starring Diego Luna.
While Ahsoka expands on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, those who haven’t seen them supposedly shouldn’t have issues enjoying the new series, according to Steven Weintraub.
Ahsoka’s show is billed to be a great headlining project for the character, and Zach Pope confirms her fans won’t be disappointed by this “incredibly fascinating and cinematic” furthering of Rebels.
Erik Davis tweets his approval of Ahsoka’s fight scenes, and notes that the show is “more serious in tone,” which makes for “some good Star Wars.“
Comparing it positively against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Klein Felt argues that Sabine is the early standount in the “Disney+ Jedi epic fans have been waiting for.“
Despite others suggesting it’s not required viewing, revisiting Rebels before starting Ahsoka is still worthwhile, suggests Ash Crossan.
And it sounds like appreciators of the Star Wars movies will be pleased, as, according to I’m Just Ren, Ahsoka “capture[s] the cinematic awe-inspiring feel of the Episodic movies.”
What To Expect From Ahsoka
Developed by Jon Favreau and Filoni for Disney+, Ahsoka follows the Togruta as she investigates the rise of a brand-new threat on the heels of the Empire’s fall. Despite her rather brief involvement in The Mandalorian season 2, her appearance in the Pedro Pascal-led show effectively set up the primary premise of her project. Ahsoka is inspired by Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen. The Chiss tactician was last seen in the Star Wars Rebels finale, wherein Ezra Bridger sacrificed himself to ensure that the villain is contained. Somehow, however, he is able to make his way back.
Aside from Ahsoka’s own narrative, the series will also serve as the continuation of Star Wars Rebels. The Disney XD animated series introduced the Ghost Crew, who were Thrawn’s original adversaries. The blue villain’s comeback effectively involves the remaining members of the rebel cell: Sabine, Hera, and Chopper. As seen in the initial reactions to Ahsoka, they will be scene-stealers in the project, which is great news for fans of Star Wars Rebels. Their return to the space opera means that the search for missing Ezra will be a central plot in Ahsoka as well.
Finally, there’s also anticipation for the appearance of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka. Not much has been revealed about the role that he will play in the show, but it’s an indication that the project will explore more of their relationship. This will mark Christensen’s second Star Wars Disney+ show appearance after Obi-Wan Kenobi.
