“There are already versions of Cleopatra with actresses in that role who have lighter skin than mine, but I think I have every right to have the opportunity to humanize this incredible woman,” she adds. “We all put our blood, sweat and tears into that show, and I think anyone else has as much right as anyone else to try because we just don’t know.”

Adele revealed to the outlet that death threats were sent to her and many other actors and crew on the series over the controversy.

“There are no circumstances under which it is acceptable for someone to treat me or anyone else the way the cast and crew have been treated since the announcement,” he shared. “The death threats I’ve received, the racist comments, it’s just the vitriol. It is not necessary, and it is very damaging.”

He then shared that the threats have gotten so serious that someone is now monitoring his social accounts.

“All we did was drop a trailer and see the response, so I’m anticipating a wave to come,” adds Adele. “But I think social media and the internet have exploded at a rate that obviously none of us could have predicted. So it’s not necessarily the safest place to be. But I? I am stubborn. I am not being banned from social media by anyone. Especially not bullies and racists.”
