Screen Rant: Adam, congrats on the movie, man. That’s why I go to the movies. There is danger around every corner. I just want to see how it goes. Can you talk about your character Mills and the family theme? 65?
Adam Driver: First of all, thank you, great to hear that. What you’re describing is what prompted me to do something big with dinosaurs and laser guns, and at the same time it’s a family movie that everyone in the family can watch together. That seemed really important when I got it, which was in the middle of the first wave of COVID. But also to do something there’s those blockbusters, but it’s really about two people who can’t communicate and they’re going through something that’s clearly beyond the experience of either of them.
At the time, it seemed obvious to the COVID metaphor, but it also showed that they were struggling externally with what was happening inside, which shifts from two people dealing with pain in the moment. real time. To have two people with completely different lifestyles become a family, but without actually telling that story, and without making it into the final moments of the film, I think it’s an ambitious opportunity. and rare.
Now you and Ariana have great chemistry 65 Dialogue is minimal. Can you talk to me about developing a chemistry between the two of you and the physicality of the show? Especially how much real dialogue?
Adam Driver: Going on that line is a big challenge. He still hasn’t worked through his grief, so sometimes everything she does reminds him of his daughter in some way. It’s hard for him not to open up because there’s no dialogue, which makes our flesh so much more real. When did he really start to care about her? When did he actually start letting her in? How do we physically say that without making him look inhuman and unsympathetic?
But I’ve always found that really great actors, especially young actors, don’t have a sense of self, don’t think too much, just be completely present, and that’s fine, you don’t need to must try. You don’t have to try to find naturally occurring chemical reactions, that’s for sure with Ariana and Chloe Coleman.
I know Sam Raimi as one of the producers and he’s known as a real-life effects master. It’s a great mix of physicality and CG. Are you guys filming in actual locations? If so, how does that help your performance?
Driver Adam: A lot. We shot in New Orleans and then in Oregon. This is a huge character of the movie. Obviously, with dinosaurs, it’s a guy in a green suit hitting you in the head with a tennis ball, or so you have to imagine. But it’s very dangerous, I guess it’s just an example, it’s a crocodile or a crocodile. I don’t remember any difference.
We’re in New Orleans in the swamp. There was a scene where I had to drag Ariana, a stuntman on a raft, through waist-high water in a swamp, and the way they got rid of the alligator or the alligator was by flapping the water. For example, “We scared ’em. So we did it. We scared ’em. So go ahead, you won’t get bitten.
