Actors’ strike negotiations fail, SAG-AFTRA accuses studios of ‘intimidation tactics’ as strike continues | SAG-AFTRA | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip

Negotiations have failed again between the actors union (SAG-AFTRA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (also known as AMPTP). The actors union is on strike as they try to negotiate fair wages in the age of streaming, artificial intelligence and more.

Dear SAG-AFTRA Members,

It is with deep disappointment that we report that industry CEOs have walked away from the negotiating table after refusing to counter our latest offer. We have negotiated with them in good faith, even though they submitted an offer last week that was surprisingly worth less than what they proposed before the strike began.

These companies refuse to protect artists from being replaced by AI, refuse to increase their salaries to keep up with inflation, and refuse to share a small portion of the immense income THEIR work generates for them. For our part, we have taken important and meaningful steps, including completely transforming our revenue-sharing proposition, which would cost businesses less than 57 cents per subscriber each year. They rejected our proposals and refused to counter them.

Instead, they use intimidation tactics. This same night they intentionally misrepresented the cost of the previous proposal to the press, exaggerating it by 60%. They have done the same thing with AI, claiming to protect artist consent, but continuing to require “consent” on the first day of employment for the use of an artist’s digital replica for an entire cinematic universe (or any franchise project).

The companies are using the same failed strategy they tried to inflict on the WGA: publishing misleading information in an attempt to trick our members into abandoning our solidarity and pressuring our negotiators. But, like writers, our members are smarter than that and won’t be fooled.

We feel the pain these companies have inflicted on our members, our strike captains, IATSE, Teamsters and Basic Crafts union members, and everyone in this industry. We have sacrificed too much to capitulate to their evasion and greed. We are united and willing to negotiate today, tomorrow and every day.

Our determination is unwavering. Join us at pickets and solidarity events across the country and let your voices be heard.

One more day. A stronger day. As long as necessary.

Your television and theater negotiating committee.

So what does this mean? Actors remain on strike and performers cannot return to work (whether for TV shows or movies) while the strike continues. This means more delays on scripted television.
