Abhijeet Sawant is an Indian singer, songwriter, musician, host and actor. He is best known for winning the first season of the reality TV singing show ‘Indian Idol’ (2004, which aired on Sony TV).

Controversy
drunk driving case
In 2010, her friend Prajakta Shukre hit a scooter with her car, injuring two brothers named Tohil Khan and Taufiq Khan, after which they were lynched by a mob. Reportedly, Abhijeet and singer Prajakta were racing their cars with each other when Prajakta lost control and collided with the scooter. Later, while talking to journalists, the local police said.
Local people, who had witnessed the entire accident, immediately gathered at the spot and attacked Sawant, who was trying to pacify the crowd. We reached the spot. After pacifying the crowd, we brought Shukre and Sawant to the police station. A case was registered against Shukre, who was later released on bail.
Later, when an eyewitness was asked about the accident, he said,
Three cars were running including Shukre. Shukre was driving at a speed of 110 km per hour. After colliding with the two-wheeler, he crashed into a tree. We lost our temper only when Sawant came to intervene and said that he had a lot of contacts and he would pay for the treatment. It was not a matter of money, but his way of speaking was rude, due to which the local people got angry.
However, Abhijeet and Prajakta were later released on bail.

- In his childhood, he lived in a one-room house with a joint family of seven-eight members.
- He had the least interest in studies and got poor grades in school and college. In an interview, he shared that he hated studying and had anxiety problems while taking school exams.
- When he was studying in class 6, he participated in a singing competition for the first time. His performance received appreciation from teachers.
- After completing 10th class, he started working at a cassette shop and got Rs 600 for this.
- One of his uncles was a stage artist. In his teenage years, Abhijeet would accompany his uncle to his stage shows, where he developed an interest in music. Then he decided that he would also make his career in the entertainment industry. Later, he started practicing music under his uncle.

- In July 2009, he joined the Indian political party Shiv Sena. In an interview, on joining the party, he said,
I am a born Maharashtrian, so it is natural that I join Shiv Sena. I can connect with them very easily and Shiv Sena provides me the right platform to do something for the youth.
