Abhay started playing squash at the Indian Squash and Triathlon Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu at a very young age. In 2019, he made his debut at the South Asian Games held in Nepal, where he won the bronze medal in the men’s singles event. In November 2022, he was a member of the national team representing India at the 21st Asian Squash Team Championships held in South Korea, becoming the first Indian squash team to win the Asian Squash Team Championships.

Pre-Covid, I was playing the best squash of my life. But during the pandemic, as an athlete I was not able to compete. It was a strange situation. It was not so easy to return to sports after Covid. I had to deal with some consequences. It just got to the point where I felt if I gave so much to the game, the least the game could do was make me happy. And that didn’t happen. Maybe at that time, if I had gone it wouldn’t have been forever. Maybe at some point I would have tried to come back.
