ABC has decided not to renew The wonderful years for another season.
The series, which was a reimagined look at the popular 1990s series, was canceled after just two seasons, according to Deadline.
The most recent season aired over the summer and, unfortunately, ranked as ABC’s lowest-rated and least-watched series. The 1990s show ran for 6 seasons.
Inspired by the beloved, award-winning series of the same name, The wonderful yearsfocused on the Williams family in the late 1960s, “highlighting the ups and downs of growing up in a middle-class black family in Montgomery, Alabama, and the friendship, laughter, and lessons along the way.”
Elisha “EJ” Williams, Dule Hill, Saycon Sengbloh and Laura Kariuki starred in the series, narrated by Don Cheadle.
The star of the original series, Fred Savage, had served as executive producer of the series, but was fired following assault allegations.
