Narendra Modi wrote a blog post on June 18, 2022 and remembered his childhood friend Abbas, who lived with Modi’s family for two years when they were young children. Modi wrote,

After the untimely death of a close friend of my father’s who lived in a nearby village, my father brought his friend’s son, Abbas (Ramsada) to our house. He stayed with us and completed his studies. Mother was as affectionate and caring towards Abbas as she was towards all our brothers and sisters. Every year on Eid she would cook his favorite dishes.”

Modi further added memories of his Vadnaga village and his small house, which did not even have a window. Modi said,

A small house in Vadnagar, “which did not even have a window, leave alone luxuries like a toilet or a bathroom.” We called this one-room house with mud walls and mud tiles for the roof our home.”

Narendra Modi told that his mother used to find happiness in the happiness of others and she was not guilty of keeping a small house. He welcomed everyone into his home with love and respect. they wrote,

Even though our house was small, she had a very big heart.”

Narendra Modi in his blog mentioned the name of his friend Abbas whose house was in another village a short distance away. Modi wrote that his friends used to visit his house during festivals and his mother enjoyed cooking special dishes for them. He has written,

On festivals, it was common for neighborhood children to come to our house and enjoy mother’s special preparations.”

Speaking to the media, Narendra Modi’s brother said that Abbas Miyanjibhai Ramsada Momin lived in Kesimpa village of Mehsana, Gujarat and was like a family to him. Narendra Modi’s brother Pankajbhai said in the same interview that Abbas used to study in his class. During the conversation, Pankaj Bhai told about the nature of Abbas. He said,

A pious man who prayed five times a day and also performed Hajj.”

Pankajbhai further told that when Abbas was in eighth-ninth class, he came to stay at his house. He lived with them for two years and celebrated all the festivals with them. Pankajbhai said,

Abbas’s father and my father were friends. There was no high school in his village and he was a dropout after his primary education…Abbas completed his 8th-9th standard by staying with us.

Pankajbhai said that Abbas used to wear his black shirt on the occasion of Muharram festival. He said,

Abbas was like a family member. My mother used to cook food for him during festivals. I remember on Muharram when Muslims mourn and wear black… I had a black shirt which Abbas used to wear.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in his blog post that his father was a very good friend of Abbas’s father, but Abbas’s father died untimely and this incident prevented Abbas’s further education in his village. Keeping Abbas’s future in mind, Modi’s father bought him and kept him at his home in his village Vadnagar so that he could continue his further studies. Abbas’s family members were convinced by Modi’s father Damodardas to send Abbas to live with them. Modi wrote,

In a way, Abbas Bhai used to stay and study in our house. Like all our children, mother also took great care of Abbas Bhai. On Eid, mother used to cook dishes of Abbas Bhai’s choice.”

Speaking to the media, Prahlad Modi, another brother of Narendra Modi, said that Abbas completed his matriculation at his house and stayed at his house for two years. Soon after finishing his tenth grade, Abbas left his home. Prahlad Modi said,

Abbas stayed with us for a few years and left after matriculation. He was a classmate of my brother Pankaj.”

  • Apart from being a retired employee of Gujarat government, Abbas is also the author of a book in which he has mentioned Narendra Modi and his family. He has written in his book that after his father’s death, Modi’s family played an important role in shaping his life and career.
  • According to some media sources, Abbas finished his SSC examinations in 1973–74. During this time, Narendra Modi moved from Vadnagar to Ahmedabad where he joined the RSS as a full-time pracharak. He said that when Abbas’s father died suddenly, Damodardas took Abbas with him from Kasimpa to Vadnagar. He said,

    Seeing this, Damodar Kaka (Modi’s father) kept Abbas in his house and taught him. His mother treated Hiraba Abbas like her own child.
