Auroras are a natural phenomenon, but they can prove to be a great visual treat. This is a lucky chance to actually see the aurora borealis.
What is aurora?
When charged particles collide with gases in our planet’s upper atmosphere, tiny flashes of light occur. This collection of tiny rays of light actually makes up the aurora borealis. A major geomagnetic storm is forming this week. According to Spaceweather.com, these auroras will be caused by the ejection of particles from the Sun. This can lead to an enhancement of the aurora in visible areas.
According to tracking website Spaceweather, our planet’s magnetic field was hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) eruption on May 7. However, contrary to forecasts, the shock had a weak impact. and can’t make a big storm. However, shortly after, the Sun released another CME towards Earth.
What is CME?
CMEs are essentially coronal plasma bubbles ejected from the Sun over several hours. These bubbles often appear along with streaks of sunlight.
