Wink Martindale, former New York Giants defensive coordinator, and his wife, Laura, have two children. When it comes to his personal life, he keeps himself aloof, but freely shows and does not hide his strong care and devotion to his wife and children. Don “Wink” Martindale is best known as a defensive coordinator in the National Football League (NFL). Throughout his career, Martindale has held various coaching positions at the collegiate and professional levels.
He received a lot of recognition for his efforts as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens defense evolved into one of the most potent forces in the league, winning Super Bowl XLVII. Martindale coached at six different NFL clubs before joining the Ravens. He also gained coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Former Giants DC Wink Martindale, his wife Laura and their two children
Wink Martindale, a veteran defensive coordinator, is happily married to his wife, Laura Martindale. They are the parents of two children: daughter Cassie and boy Ty. Martindale is enjoying his job as grandfather to adorable granddaughter Gigi, expanding their family circle. Namely, Cassie, who worked as an intern in the marketing department of the Baltimore Ravens in 2013, and her husband Randy just welcomed their daughter Gigi.
Despite Martindale’s tendency to keep his personal life private, a funny moment developed when he made a light-hearted analogy between his relationship with his wife and speculation about possible falling out with head coach Brian Daboll. When questioned by a reporter about possible problems with Daboll, Martindale joked, “I don’t always see eye to eye with my wife.” On a darker note, the Ohio-born coach emphasized his professional dedication, saying,
“He’s the head coach, and my job is to make his vision come true.” That’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
He is resigning as the Giants’ defensive coordinator
The New York Giants are looking for a new defensive coordinator as they prepare to part ways with current defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale in 2024. According to multiple reports, Martindale has resigned as the Giants’ defensive coordinator. Martindale first joined the Giants’ coaching staff in 2022 after serving four years as the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator.
His appointment was made possible by head coach Brian Daboll. Interestingly, Daboll had publicly said earlier in the day that he expected Martindale to remain the defensive coordinator for the 2018 season. However, conditions quickly changed, allowing the Giants to rethink their defensive schemes. After a disappointing second season under Daboll, the Giants’ coaching staff will undergo significant changes. The team’s immediate goal will be to find and hire a new defensive coordinator who shares Daboll’s vision and ambitions for next season.
