Megan attended Glendora High School and, after graduation, enrolled at the University of La Verne to earn a BA in Political Science, with a concentration in International Relations. Brittany adopted a different perspective on life when she, at the age of 19, discovered that she was pregnant. She found out about the pregnancy 10 days after breaking up with the toxic father of her unborn child.
Brittany’s daughter, Jadyn, arrived on January 10, 2007. By this time, she had moved back in with her supportive family. She took a year off from school and work to take care of Jadyn. Being a mother at such a young age filled her with an extra drive to succeed in her life. Brittany eventually went back to school full time, leaving Jadyn at home to stay with her grandmother. “It was more imperative for me not to be dependent on anyone and to make sure that I was generating an income for her so that I could support her and that we could be financially independent, that was a big priority for me. After finishing university, the next step was to enter the Faculty of Law. She passed the LSAT, but after interviewing working mothers in the legal profession, she opted not to become a lawyer. Brittany had always wanted to be a lawyer, but practicing law would force her to abdicate parental responsibility. Instead, she got a flexible job in marketing that allowed her to be there for Jadyn.
She didn’t achieve her dream of being a lawyer, but it was worth it for Jadyn. Xavier wrote in an Instagram Q&A that her greatest achievement in her life is her daughter.
Brittany had never seen herself as a family person, but she felt ready to settle down after meeting Anthony.
Before Jadyn came along, Brittany never envisioned herself as someone who would get married and have a family. Even after Jadyn was born, Brittany didn’t need a man in her life. “She was fine with being single,” she said. “Dating someone wasn’t something she really did. She was focused on school, work and being a mother”.
Brittany hadn’t given up on men, but dating had a different dynamic now that she was taking care of Jadyn. She was attracted to Anthony when they first met and immediately told him that her top priority was Jadyn. Anthony got everything, and after six months, she met Jadyn. Fortunately, Jadyn and Anthony shared an immediate bond.
“I wanted to make sure it was something that was going to last before I brought it in,” Brittany said. “The first thing she told me when she met him was that he looks like Prince Eric. So cute.” Brittany and Anthony got engaged in 2012 and married in September 2013. The intimate outdoor ceremony took place at Walnut Groove in Moorpark, California. Brittany said green wedding shoes which was quite an emotional affair:
“I can’t even explain the excitement I felt when I saw Anthony at the end of the hall, and then I saw my little girl on the left waiting for me, knowing that she would soon be his wife and we would be united as a family. It was amazing, such a surreal moment… Also the father-daughter dance, I got lost, crying all the time, but it was a moment for my father and I to say a few words to each other and remember quickly (through tears)!
Brittany started earning money when a colleague advised her to start charging brands for marketing clothes.
Brittany’s motivation to start a blog came after she and Anthony returned home from their honeymoon. She had grown to love wedding blogs that helped the couple design an elegant wedding on a tight budget. Megan didn’t have the experience to start a wedding blog, but she was pretty knowledgeable when it came to fashion.
Along with Anthony, Brittany launched her fashion blog. Anthony took photos of her with her Canon camera of her with Brittany as a model. Charging brands became the norm, and as she became more popular, she increased her fees to discourage exploitative brands from approaching her. Eventually, he quit his job to work as a fashion influencer full time. Brittany now had the freedom to work her own hours. She allowed him to do what she loved and spend time with her daughter.
The next step came after she won Breakthrough Fashion Blogger of the Year at the 2015 Bloglovin’ Awards in New York.
