He began his media career in 1983 with The Sun News-Pictorial (now the Herald-Sun) and continued to work for The Sunday Age until 2017. Connolly also contributed to AFL coverage on radio stations 3AW and 1116 .SEN as a border rider, among other responsibilities. Furthermore, Rohan now maintains his website “Footyology”.

Rohan Connolly’s illness recently gained widespread attention when he tweeted that he had a brain hemorrhage.
On April 23, 2023, he tweeted,
“It was a scary few days for me with the brain bleed. (Yes, they discovered the brain!) I could not have hoped for better treatment than what I experienced at the Alfred Hospital. Our healthcare workers are heroes and we should all be grateful. Thanks everyone!”
Connolly has recently made significant progress in his recovery. He thanked all his loved ones, close friends and well-wishers who helped him recover. Rohan Connolly has spent the past 39 years closely covering a number of sports, most notably AFL, for print, online, radio and television audiences. In fact, he is one of Australia’s most experienced and recognized sports reporters. Connolly worked for The Age for 30 years, serving as senior football writer, football editor and deputy sports editor. Despite this, he left in 2017 to launch his website and company, “Footyology”, best known for the popular podcast of the same name, which he co-hosts with Mark Fine, a former radio colleague.
Rohan also has extensive experience and knowledge in digital media, having recently hosted weekly video AFL shows for The Age and Essendon Football Club.
